R 3For women, life is primarily a juggling act. Their brains are hardwired to juggle many things in life and that is the reason why successful women are often multifaceted personalities excelling in all walks of life.

Being a dancer, entrepreneur, art promoter, and patron of many charitable associations and managing home at the same time may seem a herculean task but for Roopa George from Kochi, these are just part of her daily life.

Friday Mania delves deep into Roopa George’s life which throws light into her various roles as an entrepreneur, Bharatanatyam dancer, Veena artist, art promoter and charity endorser. She also opens up about her passions, family, fashion and philosophy of life.

Roopa George’s biggest passion is Bharatanatyam. She got the opportunity to learn the art from a very early age under the able guidance of Kalamandalam Sujatha Udayakumar. Later, she added further touches to her skill through her associations with Kalakshetra Pramitha and Kalakshetra Parvathi. Roopa has performed in prominent venues like Sawaralaya Palakkad, KPS Menon MemorialAward function, Doordarsan, Kids Snehamritham : a fund raising event for cancer patients.

Roopa remembers her proudest moment when she was hounoured along with prominent personalities like Dr Gangadharan, famous oncologist. Apart from dance Roopa is also passionate about music. She developed an unmatched love for the instrument Veena. Chitra Subramaniam, renowned Veena expert, moulded her skills in playing the instrument. Roopa has performed in 110 veena Kacheri, a veena concert.Roopa has scripted success wherever she laid her hands on. Her accomplishments are more than what a normal woman in India can aspire for. Tastes from across the world have had a lasting impact on Roopa which inspired her to launch Tokyo Bay, Kerala’s first Japanese restaurant. She proved her mettle by successfully managing the Asian Kitchen in Cochin Club, Fort Kochi.
Roopa is also a renowned cookery show presenter. She has anchored many TV shows based on cooking with good fan following. The success of her stint as a cookery show host prompted her to author a book ‘Kitchen Tips’ published by DC Books.
Yet, Roopa George can never sit back taking pride in her personal achievements. She believes in giving back to society. Roopa is active in charitable missions and activities.Roopa George is the goodwill ambassador of KIDS Kottappuram, an organisation that gives support to screw pine weaving of mats which is one of the oldest craft practised by the women in Kerala.

KIDS has successfully implemented various income generation projects utilizing the potential part of these fibres and thereby introducing a novel income generation activity to the SHG-Kudumbhashree members.

Roopa is actively involved in their activities in various capacities like arranging resource persons for seminars, thereby fulfilling her part in women empowerment.Roopa hails from a prominent family in Shoranur, Palakkad. Her father is CA Abraham, director of Mayil Vahanam Group, an iconic name in the field of private bus passenger service. Her Mother is Geetha Abraham.

Roopa credits her family with her enviable success in various walks of life. Roopa’s home in Kochi is filled with curios, art works and utensils based on the peacock structure which is a tribute to Mayil Vahanam. She says her husband George K Nainan of Baby Marine International, lends immense support for her ventures. Roopa is planning to give more focus on her dancing career by performing in various venues not restricted to the boundaries of Kerala.
